GSXR600 2005 |
Application: Sports / Ride Day 50kg Problem: Harsh feel Comments / observations: |
||
"Hi, I've just purchased a new 05 GSXR600, I only weigh 50 kilos, I've done a lot of racing in the past but this bike is just for sportsriding and occasional track day. I did soften the spring preload so I have just about a cm sag of the rear and softened compression a rebound a lil, also turned front preloads out to compensate for rear adjustment and also took some compression and rebound damping out."

| Your Suzuki is set for someone abound 65-70kg who doesn't ride especially
hard and so your comments about how it all comes together is
not unexpected. The fork and shock set-up are not dissimilar in so much as
they have too little low speed damping (wheel travel speed) and too much
hi-speed damping and unfortunately the compression adjusters won't
correct all of this. The rebound suffers from too little range as well as similar
problems to the forks, this is from a damping set-up point of view. The only way
you will correct the problems with the standard set-up is to change both components
and shimstack configuration. You need to make the choice, do you want the bike for the road or the track. If you can't separate the two, then you have to accept a sports/rideday combination set-up. That means not the ideal road set-up and not the ideal track set-up. Modifying the equipment you have will only give you these results. New shock and new fork with a much higher specification can get you closer to the best of both worlds. We would recommend our 20SSK K-Tech kit for the front, valved and sprung to suit your weight and type of riding and modified and revalved rear shock and new spring. This will leave you with a bike that has a plush but firm feel which can be softened for the road and firmed up via adjusters for the racetrack.
